2 Samuel 6:16-23
When King David came dancing into the city, his wife, Michal, was watching from a window of the palace. (The fact that she was inside watching instead of participating gives us a clue about her actions to come!!) The Bible says that when she saw him “she despised him in her heart.” In other words, she didn’t like what he was doing!
After they placed the ark in the special place prepared for it, David offered special sacrifices for the people, gave them all a gift and then went home to bless his own household. Michal came out and rebuked (or fussed at) David for his behavior. She said that he behaved in a way that was embarrassing for a king. But David told her that God had made him king and that God deserved to be worshipped, no matter how silly it might make David look. Worshiping God was way more important than David being a little embarrassed! Michal’s attitude was all wrong. She was putting man’s image or reputation above God and nothing goes above God. Because of her mixed up priorities, Michal was never able to have children.
We need to make sure our priorities are straight! God comes before everything else! Family, jobs and activities are important but nothing is more important than our relationship with God and worship is how we show God how we feel about Him!!
Have your kids make a list of important things in their life, besides God. Talk about how those things might come between them and God and how they can make sure not to let that happen!
