While the primary purpose of this website is to provide you with devotions that you can do with your family, I think it is appropriate to also recommend resources that you may find helpful on your parenting journey. A few weeks ago I was asked to be on the launch team for Kristen Welch’s book Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World. This gave me the opportunity to read an advance copy of the book and I can tell you that I can recommend it without any reservations. Kristen is a real mom and she shares her heart on how she has taught her own children to go counter-culture and be grateful rather than entitled. The book is full of humor and real-life stories to which we can all relate. She offers advice for moms just starting their parenting journey and veterans who would like to adjust the attitudes in their home. This book feels like you just sat and had a cup of coffee with a dear experienced friend, who is not judging, just sharing advice and godly wisdom. You will reevaluate not only the way you parent, but your own attitudes and mindset as well. Blessings on the journey!
From now until Christmas I will be posting devotions from the New Testament. I will be posting devotions on the events leading up to, including and immediately after the birth of Christ. These devotions were not written to be "Christmas-y" however they do cover the important events. You may want to read the story then do something that is a Christmas tradition for your family instead of the suggested activity. How ever you decide to celebrate this season, I pray that you remember the savior that was born that we all might be saved! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas!
I began homeschooling the oldest of my 3 boys in 2001 and I am still happily schooling away! I have also taught in children's and student's ministries of various kinds for most of my adult life. God has placed a love for children in my heart and my prayer is that the devotions here will help you to build godly character in your kids.
