After all the Midianite princes had been defeated, the people of Israel wanted to make Gideon and his family kings. Gideon refused. He knew that the people should look to God for leadership and not men. He did not want to get between the people and God. He did accept a large amount of plunder and then settled down to raise a family. The bible tells us he had 70 sons. We are also told that the Midianites were under control and did not bother the people for 40 years during the life of Gideon. But after Gideon died they began to drift back to their sinful ways and stopped following God.
Spend some time playing with magnets and small metal objects. Try to have some magnets that are stronger than others. At some point place an object equally between the strong magnet and a weaker one. Slowly and evenly approach the magnets toward the object until it pulls to the stronger magnet. God is stronger than evil. Then place the object closer to one or the other. The object will go to the magnet to which it is closest. Remind then when we get close to evil it can win, even though God is stronger, because we let it!
