2 Samuel 17:15-29
After Hushai’s advice had been accepted by Absalom, Hushai told Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, who sent word to their sons, Jonathan and Ahimaaz. Jonathan and Ahimaaz had stayed outside the city in En Rogel in hopes that no one would notice them leave, but a boy noticed and told Absalom. Jonathan and Ahimaaz went on and were hidden in a well at Bahurim by a brave woman. When Absalom’s servants came she told them the men were already gone. Absalom’s servants returned to Jerusalem and Jonathan and Ahimaaz continued on to warn David.
Hushai had sent word for David to not stop until they were across the Jordon. So David and his men crossed the Jordan and set up in Mahanaim, which was a fortified city. When he arrived the leaders of the area brought him provisions; this showed their loyalty to and support of King David. After Absalom had gathered his army, he too crossed the Jordan and set up camp preparing to fight his father, David.
God used Hushai, Zadok, Abiathar, Jonathan and Ahimaaz to help David. God also provided the woman in Bahurim to help Jonathan and Ahimaaz, as well as the loyal leaders to provide food for David and his troops. In our lives God provides people to help and guide us. We also need to be ready to help others around us. God’s perfect plan includes us living and working together for the good of all!
