Samson grew to be a man of great strength. In Judges 14:6, the Bible tells us that Samson tore a lion apart with his bare hands. In 14:19 it tells of him killing 30 men by himself. Later in the chapter it tells about Samson slaughtering a great number of Philistines.
The Philistines became angry about this and threatened the tribe of Judah. So Judah agreed to turn over Samson. They bound him with 2 strong ropes and turned him over to the Philistines. But Samson broke the ropes and killed 1000 Philistines with the jawbone of a donkey.
Samson’s strength was a gift from the Lord. Each time he used his strength it says the Spirit of the Lord came on him so that he could do it. The Lord was using Samson’s gift to bring defeat to the Philistines, who were oppressing His people. God gives us gifts as well. Most of us don’t get the gift of strength! But we are given gifts of artistic skills, musical abilities, the ability to teach or heal. God gives us gifts to use to spread His word and to bring others to know him. Do you know what your gift is?
Have your child list some things they like to do and/or are good at doing. Try to help them come up with ways they could use that to serve God.
