2 Samuel 21:15-22
The Philistines continued to fight against the nation of Israel. You probably remember the giant Goliath that David defeated as a young man. But did you know he wasn’t the only giant that fought for the Philistines? This passage mentions 4 more giants from the region of Gath that King David’s men defeated. One of them had 6 fingers on each hand and 6 toes on each foot! In case you are wondering if anyone can really be as tall as Goliath is described in the Bible, I Iooked up the Guinness World record for height. The tallest confirmed man in modern times was Robert Warlow of Alton, Illinois. He was born in 1918 and was 8 ft. 11.1 inches tall!! He died in 1940. As of this writing, the currently known tallest man is Sultan Kosen of Turkey and he is 8 ft. 2.8 in.!! On the flip side, the shortest man of modern times was Chandra Dangi of Nepal who was only 21.5 inches tall and died in 2015 at the age of 75. The current shortest man is Khagendra Magar, also of Nepal, at 2 ft. 2.41 in., born in 1992.
But why is that important? God loves diversity. While most of us end up similar in height to our parents, there are exceptions. God makes each and every one unique and he already knows exactly how tall you will be! God loves each of us for exactly who we are and so we should be thankful for how He made us!
Measure out 8 ft. 11.1 in., 21.5 in. and then measure the adults in your home. Are they on the tall side, short side or average? Measure all the kids. Do you think you will be tall, short or average? Is it important? Remember, it is fun to think about how tall we will be, but our insides are way more important than our outsides. Our insides are where we can be like Jesus. The outside is just the house our souls live in!
