1 Samuel 19:18-24
After David fled from Saul he went to Samuel in Ramah. And together they went to a place called Naioth. Soon this was reported to Saul. So Saul sent out messengers to capture David. When the messengers arrive they see a group of prophets, led by Samuel, prophesying and rather than take David the messengers were so overcome by God’s Spirit they joined the prophets in their prophesying!!
This got back to Saul so he tried again with a new group of messengers but the same thing happened. Saul tried a third time but the same thing happened again!! Finally Saul went to Naioth himself and he too was overwhelmed by the Spirit and prophesied!
Isn’t it interesting how God protected David? All of the people Saul sent were trying to do the right thing. They were following the orders of their king, so rather than destroy them God just changed their hearts and distracted them!! God didn’t have to harm anyone to protect David, He just changed their actions. Even when King Saul came, who was determined to do evil and destroy David, God turned it around because it was not His plan. No evil plot will ever overcome God’s good plan! God will change any situation that would disrupt His plan. Always trust that God is in control and everything will work out in the end!!
Put a variety of beads in a bag. Have your child randomly pull them out one by one and string them on some type of string. When they have several beads ask if that is the order they would have chosen if they had a choice. Remind them God knew exactly what they would pull out and exactly what the pattern would look like!!
