2 Samuel 2:1-4
After David and his men had mourned for King Saul and Jonathan, David inquired of the Lord if it was time to return to his homeland of Judah. The Lord replied yes, to return to the city of Hebron. How excited David must have been!! It was finally safe to return to his home, it was finally time for him to get his chance to lead! David had waited patiently for God’s timing. Many would have killed Saul and tried to take power, especially since they knew God had chosen them as the next king. But David waited for God’s timing. David knew and understood that it would only go well if he did things God’s way. So finally he is able to return home safely.
Happily David, his household, all his men and their households moved to the city of Hebron. As they lived there the men of Judah came to David and anointed him as their king by their own choice. David didn’t have to ask or fight. They wanted him as their leader and recognized God’s will. David is finally getting to lead God’s people as the prophet, Samuel, had predicted so many years ago. Just as David knew, God always keeps His promises, and they were finally becoming reality for David!!
