1 Samuel 23:1-13
About this time, David hears that the Philistines are robbing the people of Keilah. David asks the Lord if he and his men should go defend Keilah and God says yes. But when he told his men, they weren’t sure that was safe, so, David asked God again. God once again replied that they would be victorious, so David and his men went and they defeated the Philistines.
Soon, King Saul heard about the battle and decided to go capture David in Keilah. However, David got word that he was coming so, once again, David sought the Lord. David asked God if the men of Keilah would turn him over to Saul and God answered that they would, so David and his men left before Saul could get there.
Now you are probably thinking “These people of Keilah were terrible. David just saved them and they are going to give him over to his enemy, Saul?” However we need to remember that David’s enemy isn’t just any man. Saul is the rightful king of Israel. The people of Keilah would be obeying their king. That is pretty understandable!
What we do need to learn from this story is in David’s behavior. Who did he go to for direction? His men? No! God! We need to be like David and go to God for direction in everything we do. God led David to victory and then to safety. God had David’s best in His plan and He has the same for us!!
Talk about how to know God’s will. That it is always in line with His word and we should pray to get guidance!
