1 Samuel 23:14-29
After David left Keilah he went to the mountains of Ziph. While in Ziph, Jonathan came and visited David and they renewed their promises to each other. Jonathan tells David that Saul will not find him. Then Jonathan returns home.
But the men of Ziph decided to go tell King Saul that David was in their land. Saul tells them to go back and figure out exactly where David is hiding and then he will come. So the men of Ziph do this but David eludes them and moves on to the wilderness of Maon. Unfortunately Saul discovers this and follows David. At one point David’s men are on one side of a mountain and Saul’s are on the other, but, just as Saul is about to catch up, messengers arrive to tell Saul that the Philistines are attacking!! Saul needs to go rescue his people right now!!
Do you think it is a coincidence that the Philistines attacked just before Saul caught David? I don’t! I believe God used the Philistines to rescue David. God can even use evil people if He wants! He is all powerful!
Using small men and blocks (or just blocks) build some mountains and act out this story. Have “David” in the mountains, then “Saul” come after him, then almost catch him, and then the “messengers” come. Remind your kids that God is always in control!
