In Joshua 14 and 15 we found out that faithful Caleb was finally rewarded for his faithfulness by being given a city of his own. But what about Joshua? He also told Moses that the Israelites could take the land, and he went on to lead the army to do just that. Well in Joshua 19 we see that Joshua was rewarded as well. He was given the city of Timnath-Serah in the mountains of Ephraim. The Bible says that he asked for it and then built a city and dwelt in it. You may ask why he chose this place. This place is traditionally associated with where Joshua asked the Lord to stop the sun and He did. So I am sure that for Joshua this was a very special place. A place where God did a special miracle for him.
Do you have a special place or thing? Something that reminds you of a special person or event? I have several. One of these items is a Christmas ornament. The ornament shows a picture of the gazebo where my husband asked me to marry him. It is a very special reminder of a very special time and place. It is good to remember special times, people and places. It is also important to remember the special blessings God gives us so that when things look bad for the moment we can focus on the good to get us through. I’m sure that is part of why Joshua chose Timnath-Serah, so that every day he could remember the good things God had done!!
Have your child draw or paint a picture of a special blessing from God. Help them hang it somewhere to act as a reminder of the good in their life!
