After the death of Othniel, the people of Israel began to make bad choices again. So the Lord allowed Eglon, the king of Moab, to overtake them. The children of Israel served Eglon for 18 years and then they finally cried out to God to help them. God did and he brought Ehud to their rescue. The Bible specifically mentions that Ehud was left-handed and this was a benefit because when he hid his weapon it was in an unusual place so he probably wouldn’t be searched there.
So Ehud made himself a dagger and hid it on his right thigh. Then he led the group of Israelites to take the tribute to King Eglon, who was very fat. After they presented the tribute to the king, Ehud sent everyone ahead telling them he had a secret message from God for the king. After everyone had left the room, Ehud pulled out his dagger and stabbed the king in the belly and he was so fat it just disappeared!! Ehud left the dead king in his private chamber, locked the doors behind and left for home. When the king’s servants came to check on him the door was locked so they thought he needed privacy to go potty or change clothes or something. The waited, and waited and waited! Finally they became worried and unlocked the door. The king was dead!!
By this time Ehud had escaped and he raised up Israel’s army and they defeated the Moabites. Once again God had come through and provided for His people. All they had to do was repent and ask!
Have you ever needed something but were afraid to ask? What happened when you finally asked? Most of the time we get what we need when we let someone know we need it. God already knows what you need or want, but he wants you to take the time to talk to him and ask. Is there something you want to ask for now? Go ahead! God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, as long as it is what is best for us.
