During the time when Pharaoh was killing all the Israelite baby boys, a Levite woman, named Jochebed, gave birth to a son. Of course, she did not want her son to die, so she hid him for 3 months. After the 3 months she couldn’t keep him hidden anymore so she made a basket and waterproofed it. Then she put her son in the basket and placed it in the reeds at the edge of the Nile River. She had her daughter, Miriam, watch the basket.
Now Jochebed could not have had any idea what would happen to her son. Anyone could have found the basket. Even an Egyptian guard that would have killed him on sight! But Jochebed believed in God and that He would protect and provide for her son. She completely surrendered her child to God’s will. And what happened?
Pharaoh’s daughter came to bathe at the River! Now that could be good or bad. Would his daughter follow the law? No, she felt sorry for the baby that was crying in the basket and decided to adopt him! Miriam boldly approached the princess and offered to find someone to care for the baby. Who did she go get? Why her mother of course!
So Jochebed got to take care of her own son under the protection of the Pharaoh’s daughter. She got out of slave labor and got to teach her son about the God she loved! So when her son, that they named Moses, was old enough to go live in the palace, he already had a firm foundation he would later need.
Jochebed trusted God and He brought about wonderful events that were probably beyond her wildest dreams. Is there something you need to trust God about? His plan may be better that you ever imagined!!
Find a small basket and place small pieces of paper with things your family needs to trust God about in it. Pray over them and come back in a few weeks and see how things turned out!
