In Genesis 2:8-17 the Bible describes the Garden of Eden that God created for Man to live in and the 1 rule they had to follow. Genesis 2:17 says they should not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and if they do they will die.
One day the serpent (who was being controlled by the Devil) came and asked Eve if she could eat from every tree in the garden. Eve said they could eat from all the trees except the tree of knowledge of good and evil because they would die. The serpent replies with a lie that they will not die but gain wisdom. While this was true of not dying instantly it would bring death into the world. And while it did bring knowledge, God knew that this knowledge would ruin the joy of their innocent existence.
Eve’s mistake was in letting the serpent twist God’s words until it justified her choice. Eve knew God had said not to eat from the tree, but she listened to the serpent’s lies until it sounded okay to do it. This is still Satan’s favorite trick! He will put just enough truth in what he tells us to make it sound okay! We need to learn what God’s word says and not listen when Satan, or people in our lives, try to twist things to sound okay. Part of being made in the image of God is that we can reason and make decisions. God has given all of us the opportunity to make our own choices. We have to decide to follow God’s word or listen to a lie!
